Bill Moore commanded 19 Mechanized Brigade in Iraq in 2003. The tour was characterised by an increasing unrest from the local population as the coalition failed to deliver, as well as growing involvement from Iran, both of which resulted in casualties. The UK Government failed to resource the reconstruction of Iraq with both funding and experts which left the military to fill the gap. Bill will explain the challenges, the successes, and the failures of a challenging tour. He will also touch on the workings of the MOD where he was posted on return and will argue that much of the Ministry was focussed on normal jogging and that, initially anyway, some saw Iraq as an unwelcome distraction.
Major General Bill Moore is a forthright speaker and was the subject of a BBC article which you can read here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-65008685.
